Protect Us from the Development Plan

Deadline to Object

The official deadline was 24th September but local councillors have assured us that any late objections sent to the Planning Department will count right up until it goes to committee. So if you haven’t already done so please do send in your comments, find out how here. Although we have submitted the petition still keep asking your contacts to join us – if enough extra sign we can always submit an addendum.

Protect Us from the Development Plan

Development area R17

Brentwood Council Local Development Plan approves in principle the building of 200 homes on green belt land. “Site R16” actually comprises two distinct pieces of land off Doddinghurst Road either side of the A12. One is the ‘Horses Field’ on the Pilgrims Hatch side and the other diverse Woodland on the Brentwood side. Karen Close, Russell Close and Warescot Road in Brentwood and then Elizabeth Road, Philip Close, Highgrove and Bishops Hall Road in Pilgrims Hatch are adjacent to these sites.

Diversity

The two sites offer a rich diversity of environment and are home to many species including badgers, foxes, bats and deer, oh, and horses. The wooded area has open glades, shrubs and a variety of trees including Oak, Ash, Birch, Hornbeam, Goat Willow & Poplar. These provide both a noise and air quality ‘buffer’. They are also key elements of a sustainable ecology.

Air Quality

Once developed, it is inevitable that the current Air Quality Management Area (AQMA 4 which covers parts of Warescot Road, Ongar Road & Hurstwood Avenue), will expand to include the new development. Pollution levels associated with, probably, another 400 cars will increase. The potential impact on health on the residents and children living and walking through the area is unimaginable.

Quality of Life

Green space helps deliver quality of life, mental heath in particular. Loss of this greenspace will result in more mental health issues; worryingly of the type that leaves folks feeling depressed and, therefore, at risk.

Congestion

It will create further congestion in the surrounding roads especially Kimpton Avenue, Robin Hood Road and the roads running between Ongar Road and Doddinghurst Road in Pilgrims Hatch.

What are we objecting to?

  1. Developers or others clearing the site before full planning is sought,
  2. Planning decisions being made without independent surveys of the site.
